No.15

Description

The 15th in a collection of modern art based on the motif of actual Edo period Ukiyo-e paintings of beautiful women, reconstructed with a contemporary sensibility.

Ukiyo-e style is expressed in the pattern of the cloth, the thin and supple lines, the blank spaces and the women's gestures. The essence of modernity is expressed in the simple and soft colouring, the backgrounds and silhouettes arranged in an extremely minimalist design.

The past and present are blended together in the world of Ukiyo-e, expressing Edo chic in a modern way.

As mentioned above, this No. 15 is based on an actual ukiyo-e print. It is called 'Kotatsu no Musume to Neko' (A girl and a cat with a kotatsu) by Utagawa Kunimasa (1773-1810). Please try to find the original story. Ukiyo-e is a unique and original Japanese culture. We hope you will use this work as a gateway to enjoy a 400-year time travel back and forth between Edo and Reiwa.

Have a nice trip.
